Telephone line cards

Unless you are using your Elastix PBX exclusively to place calls through the internet, your system needs a telephony card. These hardware cards serve as the interfase between your Elastix PBX and the local telephone company's lines. Once configured, you can place and receive calls directly from the local phone company (PSTN).

The type of card described above is called FXO. Elastix PBX systems also support another type of telephony card called FXS which allows for the integration of conventional phones to the PBX. In general, FXO cards listen to a dial tone from the phone company, and FXS cards provide dial tone to a connected phone behaving similar to a telephone company.

Such cards can support from 1 line to 4 E1 ports of 30 lines each (120 lines total!). The expansion modules for these cards allow a company to purchase a base card with only the modules needed and expand later with new modules as more lines are needed for growth.
